Senior Tutor – Accompanist and Acoustic Piano.
Joshua teaches the piano to pupils aged 7 and above at all levels from beginner to advanced including coaching for Diploma preparation and theory of music.
He is a professional accompanist and an International Examiner for the London College of Music. Joshua started learning the piano at the age of 11 and by the age of 20 had gained his LTCL Piano Teacher’s Diploma and a PGCE in Senior Music Education from Kingston University. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985 and in 2018, the DipLCM Piano Recital with distinction.
His professional career, spanning 35 years, was primarily as a Director of Music in Private Schools and A level music examiner, alongside which he developed and maintained a private piano teaching practice. He has a 100% success rate with examination results spanning the past 40+ years. Joshua tailors his teaching to the individual and offers bespoke Programmes of Study in order to enable his pupils to achieve their best attainment.
He is particularly interested in classical music and this forms the main core of his teaching. He is keen to promote the benefits of playing in ensemble and to this end provides opportunities for pupils to develop their musicianship skills through performing piano duets, chamber music and accompanying. Joshua is the pianist/virginal player in The Birnbeck Duo and a recorder player in the Avalon Ensemble.
In his role as the Senior Tutor at the Academy, Joshua offers advice, workshops and Mock Examinations for students preparing for examinations at all levels. He is a Fellow of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and member of the Private Teachers’ Section.
