Julie started playing the cornet at the age of 9, joining her local Brass Band and Orchestra. She quickly built a reputation for winning at solo and brass quartet competitions all over the southwest. He became Principal Cornet in the band, which gave her the confidence and experience to progress further.
She studied music at A level and achieved a Distinction at Grade 8 on Cornet/Trumpet when she was 18. She plays a wide variety of music styles from jazz and big band to classical and traditional brass band.
Julie has considerable experience playing in ensembles, bands, orchestras and quartets all over the southwest of England, notably having assisted the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra from time to time and holding the seat of Eb Soprano Cornet in a Championship Brass Band for several years.
She has competed at the West of England Brass Band Championships for over 30 years at all levels and has reached the National Finals of Great Britain on 6 occasions. She has also performed on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival.
She currently plays with a 1st Section Band from the West Country and holds a principal seat on Eb Soprano Cornet. She plays in concerts and national and regional competitions, regularly performing solos with the band.
Julie has played under several top class conductors and is looking forward to passing on her knowledge and skills. She is happy to tutor both children and adults, beginners, returners and more advanced players.
Her aim is to provide enjoyable, progressive sessions and with her friendly, positive teaching style she encourages students to achieve their very best.
